The Flu and Post-Concussion Syndrome

I have heard that after suffering a head injury it is not uncommon that a ‘mild’ illness like a cold or flu can cause you more problems than normal, and it can also cause worsening of brain symptoms. This has happened to me before and this week was no different.

Before the brain injury, a full flu from beginning to healthy lasted a week or so, with the worst part affecting me for about 2-4 days. Now that figure is about double.

Today marks day 7 of the “bad part” of the flu. Until day 5 I felt like I was in some kind of Groundhog Day – every day I woke up like it was the first day of the flu. I had body pain, mainly in the legs, as well as headache and eye pain. And I spent every day feeling deeply fatigued.

The only aspect that has been ‘progressing’ is the chest part. I started with a sore throat that has already moved down to my chest where it affects me now, accompanied by a phlegmy cough.

I plan to spend 1-2 more days inside of this before seeing more progress.

Update – 2 days later:

I got it right. Today I am beginning to see the light! Still with care and a 2-hour nap, but I went with my husband to the supermarket, we visited my nieces briefly, and I have been able to cook a little and work a little online.
